Cranberry Sauce Recipes Perfected
This recipe has been 4-5 years in the making. You see I tend to only make it for Thanksgiving. Every year I write notes on how to improve it and each year it has gotten better and better (voted on by my family and friends of course). I do the same for the pies but those are coming in another post..Anyway last year I nailed it. So here is the finished product just in time for you to add to your menu and modify to your own taste if you wish. Brace yourself for a cranberry sauce loaded with flavor!
Serves: 8
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
4 cups cranberries (organic are best if you can find them-more flavorful)
1/2 cup water
2 apples, peeled, and chopped (try for sweet ones)
a pinch of cloves (this is a strong seasoning so be careful you need just the right amount)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ginger
1 cup honey (add up to 1/4 cup more if the apples you used aren't very sweet)
1/2 tsp orange rind - this is added at the very end
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions:
In a medium sauce pan, bring cranberries and water to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook until berries start to pop, about 8 minutes.
Add apples and continue to cook 5 minutes or until tender.
Stir in spices and honey.
Simmer for 3-5 minutes. Remove from heat and add orange rind and the optional nuts. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
